Spartan Moon Studio presents · a memoir by Dragos Crisan

TheLonelyMile

I ran 100 races trying to find myself. I spent the next seven years trying to forgive myself.

A story about becoming. And what follows.Scroll to begin
There's someone I'd like you to meet

The hardest journeys don't always look like journeys.

For a long time, his days looked ordinary. The commute. The work. Home in the evening. A life that made sense from the outside. It was comfortable in places, genuinely good in others. And somewhere inside it, he had begun to disappear from his own view.

“This is the lie that comfortable decline tells you. It’s very persuasive.”An excerpt from The Lonely Mile

Transformation sounds rather tidy when you say it quickly. Living through it is another thing entirely.

There's more I'd like you to know.

Some parts of his story are visible from a distance. Others ask you to come a little closer.

One year people could see

One hundred races. And another story underneath.

Yes, he really did run a hundred races in 2019. It was extraordinary. But the numbers can't tell you what it cost—or what happened long after the finish lines.

What the finish line could not settle

By the final race, the numbers were extraordinary. But he had not reached that line alone. Friends had waited through the hard parts, traveled alongside him, and shared the moments no record book could hold. He found a way to say what the medals meant.

The record was mine to have run. The medal belonged to all of us.

From The Lonely Mile

Even that beautiful finish wasn't the whole story. The harder reckoning came afterward, when he had to confront choices that didn't resemble the person he'd worked to become.

Meet the author

Dragos Crisan

He hasn’t written himself as a hero. I wouldn’t introduce him that way either.

He’s written about the distance between the person he wanted to be and the person he sometimes found himself being. And he’s let us see some of that distance, even where it isn’t flattering.

The rest remains
to be uncovered.

There's more I could tell you. There are people you haven't met, moments that may stay with you, and choices whose weight only becomes clear when you've walked far enough beside him.

I'd rather you discover those things in their own time.

Behind the Pages

And if something stays with you after you finish, you're welcome to keep in touch. Thoughtful notes about the writing, the memories and whatever comes next. Nothing noisy.

The finish line was real. So was everything that came after it.
